Important safety disclaimer
Walk Awêh is an information resource, not a substitute for experience, training, or sound judgement. Trail conditions, weather, and access change rapidly and without notice. You are solely responsible for your own safety and the safety of anyone in your group. If in doubt, do not go. If in trouble, call WSAR on 021 937 0300.
Acceptance of terms
By accessing walkaweh.co.za or walkaweh.app (together, "the site" and "the app"), you agree to these terms of use. If you do not agree, please do not use Walk Awêh.
Walk Awêh is operated independently and is not affiliated with WSAR, SANParks, CapeNature, or any government body.
Nature of the service
Walk Awêh provides trail information, weather guidance, emergency contacts, first aid reference material, and a directory of hiking guides. All content is provided for informational purposes only.
Walk Awêh is free for hikers and always will be. The guide directory is supported by listing subscriptions paid by guides. Guide listings are not endorsements. See the Guide listings section below.
Accuracy of information
We review trail status, emergency numbers, and first aid protocols regularly. However, information may be inaccurate, incomplete, or out of date by the time you read it. In particular:
- Trail status reflects the last manual update and may not reflect current ground conditions, closures, or hazards
- Emergency numbers are verified periodically. Always confirm critical numbers before you rely on them
- Weather data is sourced from Open-Meteo and cached locally. Always cross-check conditions independently before heading out
- First aid guidance is general reference only, it does not replace wilderness first aid training
To report incorrect information, email hello@walkaweh.co.za.
Limitation of liability
To the maximum extent permitted by applicable law, Walk Awêh and its creators accept no liability for:
- Injury, illness, death, or loss arising from reliance on any information in the app or on this site
- Inaccurate, incomplete, or outdated trail conditions, emergency numbers, weather data, or first aid guidance
- Any loss or damage arising from use of, or inability to use, the app or this site
- Any act, omission, or conduct of any guide listed in the directory
Your use of Walk Awêh is entirely at your own risk. The app is a supplement to, not a replacement for proper preparation, physical fitness, appropriate equipment, and sound decision-making.
Guide listings
Guides listed in the directory have provided credentials at the time of listing. Verified guides have supplied proof of FGASA accreditation, current wilderness first aid certification, and public liability insurance. Credentials are reviewed annually.
A listing in the Walk Awêh directory, whether Standard or Verified is not an endorsement of the quality, safety record, suitability, or fitness for purpose of any guide's service. Always confirm credentials, availability, pricing, and suitability directly with a guide before booking.
Walk Awêh is not a party to any agreement between hikers and guides. Any dispute arising from a guiding engagement is solely between the hiker and the guide.
To report a concern about a listed guide, email hello@walkaweh.co.za.
Guide listing terms
Guides who apply for a listing agree to the following:
- All information submitted in the application is accurate and complete to the best of your knowledge
- You hold current, valid credentials as submitted, and will notify Walk Awêh promptly if any credentials lapse or change
- You hold valid public liability insurance for guiding activities and will maintain it for the duration of your listing
- Walk Awêh may remove or suspend your listing at any time if information is found to be inaccurate, credentials cannot be verified, or a credible complaint is received
- Subscription fees are non-refundable for the current billing period. Cancellation takes effect at the end of the period
Intellectual property
All content on walkaweh.co.za and walkaweh.app, including text, trail descriptions, icons, and design is owned by Walk Awêh unless otherwise stated. You may not reproduce, distribute, or use this content commercially without written permission.
Emergency numbers are public information. First aid guidance is adapted from publicly available wilderness medicine resources. Weather data is sourced from Open-Meteo under their open licence.
