FAQ

Common questions

Do I need a formal guiding qualification to apply?

Not necessarily for a Basic listing. We do require verifiable experience leading hikes in the Western Cape. For Verified status, we look for a recognised accreditation such as FGASA, MCSA guide rating, or a CATHSSETA qualification — but we assess applications case by case.

How does payment work? Do you take a commission?

We charge a flat monthly or annual subscription for your listing. We take no commission on bookings. Hikers pay you directly at whatever rate you set. You keep 100% of your guiding income.

What are trail chips?

Trail chips are small tags on your guide card showing which hiking trails you lead. These are included on all listings.

Can I upgrade from Basic to Verified later?

Yes, at any time. Your listing stays live during the transition, and Verified benefits activate as soon as your subscription is confirmed.

How long does the application review take?

We aim to respond within 3 working days. If we need more information, we'll contact you by email.

Is Walk Awêh available outside Cape Town?

For now, we're focused exclusively on Cape Town and the Cape Peninsula. We may expand to other mountain regions in future, but deep and accurate local coverage comes first.

What happens if I cancel my Verified subscription?

Your listing drops back to the Basic subscription. You keep your listing, trail chips, and contact buttons, but lose Verified-only features like the badge, priority sort, etc.
